Snorkeling Day on inner Islands on the edge of the Komodo national park. Our one day snorkeling safari gives a glimpse of this magic under water world and shows some of the great biodiversity of fish, corals and sponges of this area. After an early breakfast, you leave for the harbor and your boat for a one hour run to Kelor island where you should arrive around 09:00 hours. The island has gorgeous coral reefs recovering from bombing some 10 years ago. You can either have your coffee and snacks on arrival or snorkel first for around 90 minutes.
A short walk around this small paradise is recommended. At around 11:00, you proceed to Kanawa Island where there is a small resort and a restaurant. Lunch on the boat, after which you proceed down the beach to some magnificent coral gardens for a further snorkeling prior. In your own time, you return to Labuan Bajo and dinner.
You will travel to Rinca Island, the second main island in the Komodos. This day combines seeing the wildlife on Rinca Island (especially the Komodo dragon but also Buffalo, Deer, Pigs, many species of birds and monkeys) and snorkeling to see some of the great biodiversity of the reefs in this area, part of The Ring of Fire. On Rinca, after checking with the park authorities, you trek around 2 – 3 km through the bush and you should see komodos, buffalo, deer and birds. You can walk as long as you wish but with the heat 2 hours maximum is suggested. A late Lunch on the boat followed by a leisurely return to the Lodge via snorkeling at Bidadari island arriving around 17:30 at the lodge for dinner.
After discussion with the lodge manager you can choose what to do on this day from a number of activities – visits to local caves, a drive into the mountains on the road to Ruteng to see great views and birds, a visit to the town of Labuan Bajo including a drink in one of the bars of the town, a river boat trip in the evening to see birds or a visit to a local school and village. It is suggested you choose two or three of these trips.
