FLORES BIRD and MOUNTAIN ECOLODGE, Mbeliling.

A small camp-style ecolodge with seven ‘A’ frame cottages and a restaurant set on the steep shoulders of Mbeliling Mountain with stunning views west over to the Komodo Islands. It protects the edge of Mbeliling forest conservation area, giving an enormous area for trekking and birding. There are many Flores endemic birds here.

From Bali to Labuan Bajo airport is around 1 ½ hours flight. From airport or port it is about 50 minutes by car to the lodge on the Ruteng road. Ruteng lies two to three hours from the lodge.

  • By buying this land adjacent to the Mbeliling forest Conservation area, and with this lodge employing only local people we aim to protect the area from tree-clearing and poaching using our staff to teach others.
  • We use as many ecological management practices as possible including : using ‘A’ frame steel structures for safety and to reduce impact on the land as well as reducing timber use  to protect the forest, at the same time promoting local bamboo (ceiling, etc)
  • All water is recycled through reed-bed (garden) systems to protect the water table and river.
  • Solar energy is used in part
  • Electric buggy to reduce noise and pollution
  • Garbage is recycled in Labuan Bajo
  • Kitchen waste goes to chickens, pigs and compost
  • Compost feeds the fruit trees here.

You can help by keeping your rubbish to a minimum, refilling your water bottle from our filters and using water and electricity with care
