WAE REBO – EXPLORING THE HIGHLANDS TRADITIONAL VILLAGE OF FLORES

Flores is a culturally diverse island. According to Wikipedia, six separate languages are identifiable in Flores. Dotted by volcanoes that are often surrounded by terraced valleys, then ringed by glorious beaches, the island of Flores is a fabulous destination for adventurers, nature lovers, and explorers.
Wae Rebo is a village of the Manggarai tribe. The tribe is settled in the West Manggarai Regency in the West of Flores. This package takes you to one of the wonders of Flores, the isolated village of Wae Rebo. Designed for travelers who would like to delve deeper into the Flores countryside before their journey to discover the biggest reptile on earth, the package allows you to discover the unique circular cone-shaped housing called Mbaru Niang and to experience the daily lives in an authentic Manggaraian village nestled in isolated mountain scenery.

One of the nice things about the village is just how isolated it is. It’s a 9 km hike through the thick rainforest to Denge, the nearest village. At the moment the only way you can visit is if you stay overnight. The isolation limits the number of tourists that come to Wae Rebo. It makes the trip more about the experience.
During the day you can explore the valley and interact with the villagers including to see their famous ikat weaving. At night the sky is filled with stars, which makes it a great spot for night photography. You could get to sleep in one of the Mbaru Niang houses or sleep at the guesthouse near the village.

The journey to Wae Rebo is about a 3-hour drive from our Mbeliling Ecolodge, to the nearest village Denge. Public transport is almost non-existent, and we recommend taking a car charter with a driver. Then when you arrive at Denge we will find you a local guide to take you to the village.

Flores adalah pulau dengan beragam budaya. Menurut Wikipedia, terdapat enam bahasa berbeda yang diidentifikasi di Flores. Dilalui oleh gunung berapi dan dihiasi lembah bertingkat, serta dikelilingi oleh pantai-pantai yang indah, Flores adalah tujuan yang luar biasa bagi para petualang, pecinta alam, dan penjelajah.

Wae Rebo adalah salah satu desa dari suku Manggarai. Suku tersebut bermukim di Kabupaten Manggarai Barat di sebelah Barat Flores. Paket ini membawa Anda ke salah satu keajaiban Flores, ke sebuah desa terpencil Wae Rebo. Dirancang untuk wisatawan yang ingin menjelajahi pedalaman pedesaan Flores (sebelum atau sesudah mengunjungi Pulau Komodo), paket ini mengajak anda untuk melihat komplek rumah unik berbentuk kerucut melingkar, yang disebut Mbaru Niang. Disini kita juga bisa melihat kehidupan sehari-hari suku asli Manggarai, disamping suasan desa yang terletak di pemandangan pegunungan yang terisolasi.
Salah satu hal menyenangkan tentang desa ini adalah betapa terpencilnya desa itu. Kita harus melakukan perjalanan sejauh kira-kira 9 km melalui hutan hujan lebat ke Denge, desa terdekat. Saat ini satu-satunya cara untuk berkunjung adalah dengan bermalam di desa tersebut. Lokasinya yang terisolasi secara langsung akan membatasi jumlah wisatawan yang datang ke Wae Rebo. Ini membuta pengalaman berkunjung menjadio sesuatu yang istimewa.
Pada siang hari kita dapat menjelajahi lembah dan berinteraksi dengan penduduk desa termasuk melihat tenun ikat mereka yang terkenal. Pada malam hari, langit dipenuhi bintang, yang menjadikannya tempat yang bagus untuk fotografi malam. Wisatawan bisa tidur di salah satu rumah Mbaru Niang atau tidur di wisma dekat desa.

Perjalanan ke Wae Rebo memakan waktu sekitar 3 jam berkendara dari Mbeliling Ecolodge kami, ke desa terdekat Denge. Transportasi umum hampir tidak ada, dan kami merekomendasikan untuk menyewa mobil dengan sopir. Setelah tiba di Denge kami akan mencarikan pemandu lokal untuk membawa kita ke desa tersebut.
