Without the faithfulness and integrity of all our staff, but particularly our Managers and Office staff, under Ibu Emi, our exceptional Operations Manager, we would have sunk without a trace…
Yet here we are in February 2022 , with our nose still just above water, and the Lodges all ready to receive guests as soon as they come.
KELIMUTU CRATER LAKES ECOLODGE, Moni
Running on a skeleton staff (on skeleton wages), with a small extra income from agriculture and a few local guests, mainly Government, is looking beautiful, rooms ready and small maintenance problems dealt with Ibu Johanna, assisted by Pak Patris and Ibu Elise have done sterling work, even in the fields and market.
The agriculture started with a loan from our first Conservation fund has seen profit from the sale of two bulls, with an aim of buying a female in calf shortly. Rice has been harvested, and Pak Centy has just planted 1,000 tomato plants, after a big harvest of green beans. Chillies next!
MBELILING MOUNTAIN ECOLODGE, Labuan Bajo
Just after opening in November 2019, Mbeliling had no guests after February 2020, except for one couple trapped by Covid for three weeks!
Ibu Maria, and her tiny team have kept the Lodge sparkling, and the garden growing.
Edi and Yos keep the Bird trail open, and Octa, who was saved from certain death by emergency surgery in Bali late 2019, has recovered and does the work of several on ceilings, hot water systems, and recently he cut 17 huge bamboo from the forest to replace the supports of the solar panels, just before a 6,5 earthquake. (no ill effects)
On the agriculture side the newest batch of catfish are now 20 cm. Long, the pineapples are bearing, and new seedlings of clove and coffee are ready to plant. Our famous avocado tree is steadily producing .All this generates a small amount of extra income and staff food.
SATWA SUMATRA ELEPHANT ECOLODGE, Lampung
Satwa under Ibu Nanik and Pak Sugeng is always spotless and neat, ready for the rare guest. The Way Kambas National Park has been closed – open – closed ,we hope open again soon.
Some staff participated in our goat scheme, with initial capital a loan from our first Conservation Fund. Starting with 7 animals ,there are now 16, and two pregnant again, so it does help to augment salaries.
We also had a little bonus from some timber from damaged trees which had to be cut down, some sold and some kept for maintenance. New trees are being planted. There has been heavy rain, good for the trees, but making the Fire protection All for Nature activities redundant temporarily. Funds will run out for this soon.
RIMBA ORANGUTAN ECOLODGE, Kalimantan
Our Manager Pak Nopri, and assistant Manager Nona Bonika, with ibu Manik from the kitchen take turns to stay at the lodge to guard it. Ibu Maniks father helps them sometimes a lonely spot without guests”
Rimba is the biggest Lodge, in the wettest climate prone to termites and leaks caused by Proboscis monkeys jumping on the roofs. They like the noise. Lukas guided by Ibu Emi, aided by some villagers has renovated six rooms with their roof timbers and ceilings, all ready for guests
Recently a government group came to assess the Lodge for a Certificate given for Cleanliness, Health and Good environmental practices. they were most impressed by the readiness of the Lodge and we now have a Certificate. All hotels in Indonesia will eventually be assessed, so it will take a while to reach the other Lodges.
Our Forest Management Training Centre is based at the Lodge and has hosted two courses of two days each with participants staying two nights, led by our chief guide Hakim, Adut, and Arif from the local entities working with us in the Conserve our World re- wild Tanjung Puting tree planting project.
Agriculture is limited to fish- the tank has just been cleaned to start a new batch of Nile Perch, and the chillies, beans and tomatoes in polybags do quite well.
We are proud of the way the staff have stuck it out in exceptionally difficult circumstances.\

Namun di kami masih disini pada Februari 2022, dan semua Pondok siap menerima tamu Kembali.
KELIMUTU CRATER LAKES ECOLODGE, Moni
Beroperasi dengan upah yang sangat minim, dengan penghasilan tambahan kecil dari pertanian dan beberapa tamu lokal, terutama Pemerintah, Lodge ini terlihat cantik, kamar siap, dan masalah pemeliharaan kecil ditangani Ibu Johanna, dibantu oleh Pak Patris dan Ibu Elise. Mereka telah melakukan pekerjaan mulia, bahkan di kebun dan pasar.
Pertanian Kelimutu dimulai dengan pinjaman pertama dari Dana Konservasi telah mendapat keuntungan dari penjualan dua ekor sapi jantan, dengan tujuan selanjutnya membeli seekor betina dalam waktu dekat. Padi telah dipanen, dan Pak Centy baru saja menanam 1.000 tanaman tomat, setelah panen besar kacang hijau. cabai siap ditanam selanjutnya!
MBELILING MOUNTAIN ECOLODGE, Labuan Bajo
Tepat setelah dibuka pada November 2019, Mbeliling tidak memiliki tamu sejak Februari 2020, kecuali satu pasangan yang terjebak oleh Covid selama tiga minggu!
Ibu Maria, dan tim kecilnya telah membuat lodge ini tetap bersih, dan taman terus berkembang.
Edi dan Yos menjaga agar jejak Burung tetap terbuka, dan Octa, yang selamat melalui operasi darurat di Bali akhir 2019, telah pulih dan melakukan beberapa pekerjaan membersihkan langit-langit, sistem air panas, dan baru-baru ini dia memotong 17 bambu besar dari hutan untuk menggantikan penopang panel surya, tepat sebelum gempa 6,5. (tidak menimbulkan dampak buruk)
Di sisi pertanian ikan lele tumbuh mencapai panjang 20 cm. Nnas berbuah, dan bibit baru cengkeh dan kopi siap ditanam. Pohon alpukat kami yang terkenal terus berproduksi. Semua ini menghasilkan sedikit pendapatan tambahan dan makanan pegawai.
SATWA SUMATRA ELEPHANT ECOLODGE, Lampung
Satwa di bawah Ibu Nanik dan Pak Sugeng selalu bersih dan rapi, siap menerima tamu. Taman Nasional Way Kambas sudah tutup – buka – tutup, semoga segera dibuka kembali.
Beberapa staf berpartisipasi dalam skema pemeliharaan kambing kami, dengan modal awal pinjaman dari Dana Konservasi pertama kami. Berawal dari 7 ekor, sekarang menjadi 16, dan dua lagi bunting, jadi sangat membantu untuk menambah gaji.
Kami juga mendapat sedikit bonus dari beberapa kayu dari pohon yang rusak yang harus ditebang, beberapa dijual dan beberapa disimpan untuk keperluan lodge. Pohon-pohon baru sedang ditanam. Telah terjadi hujan lebat, baik untuk pepohonan, tetapi membuat aktivitas Perlindungan Kebakaran Semua untuk Alam untuk sementara waktu tidak diperlukan. Dana akan segera habis untuk ini.
RIMBA ORANGUTAN ECOLODGE, Kalimantan
Manajer kami Pak Nopri, dan asisten Manajer Nona Bonika, bersama ibu Manik dari dapur bergiliran menginap di pondok untuk menjaganya. Ayah Ibu Manik terkadang membantu mereka di tempat sepi tanpa tamu”.
Rimba adalah lodge terbesar kami, di iklim terbasah yang rentan terhadap rayap dan kebocoran yang disebabkan oleh bekantan yang melompat di atap. Lukas dibimbing oleh Ibu Emi, dibantu oleh beberapa warga desa telah merenovasi enam kamar dengan atap kayu dan langit-langit, semuanya siap untuk tamu
Baru-baru ini sebuah kelompok pemerintah datang untuk menilai Lodge untuk Sertifikat yang diberikan untuk Kebersihan, Kesehatan dan praktik lingkungan yang baik. mereka sangat terkesan dengan kesiapan lodge kami dan sekarang kami memiliki Sertifikat. Semua hotel di Indonesia pada akhirnya akan dinilai, sehingga akan memakan waktu cukup lama untuk mencapai Lodges lainnya.
Pusat Pelatihan Manajemen Hutan kami berbasis di Rimba Lodge dan telah menyelenggarakan dua kursus masing-masing dua hari dengan peserta menginap dua malam, dipimpin oleh pemandu utama kami Hakim, Adut, dan Arif dari kelompok lokal yang bekerja bersama kami dalam penanaman pohon di Taman Nasional Tanjung Puting.
Kegiatan pertanian terbatas pada pemeliharaan ikan nila dalam bak, menanam cabai, kacang-kacangan, dan tomat dalam polibag yang tumbuh cukup baik.
Kami bangga dengan cara staf bertahan dalam keadaan yang sangat sulit.
