WHAT THEY SAY

Personalized Service
"The staff at Satwa Elephant Ecolodge responded to all our needs from before dawn to after dark. This included providing excellent meals, boxed breakfast and/or lunch when needed, and snacks that could be eaten while out walking. The Ecolodge is located next to Way Kambas National Park, which provides opportunities for wildlife and bird watching as well as boat trips. My husband and I sometimes had four people helping just us find wildlife and birds. Bayu and Yoko knew most of the bird calls and songs and tried to help us see as many of them as possible. At the park, we saw and/or heard macaques, langurs, Siamang Gibbons, and dozens of birds such as Malayan Crested Fireback, Red Junglefowl, Large-tailed Nightjar, Black-and-red Broadbill, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Great Argus, Malayan Banded-Pitta and Sunda Pygmy Woodpecker to name a few. On and near the grounds of the Ecolodge, the staff helped us find a Buffy Fish Owl and a Slow Loris. People staying at the lodge to visit Way Kambas should be aware that the Rhino Center is closed to the public and the park tries to keep the wild elephants away from tourists for safety reasons. Tigers have not been sighted in a number of years. We were able to see rehabilitated elephants at the Elephant Center, which is near to the lodge.."

Once in a lifetime experience!
"
The perfect choice for wildlife watching in Way Kambas NP
Our visit was booked over 5 years ago, Covid intervened and we were finally able to stay at Satwa Lodge and explore Way Kambas NP in August 2024. The initial Booking and very many subsequent communications with Gedi at their Head Office were expertly handled, with all our many questions being patiently and considerately handled.
As has been mentioned in previous reports, some of the activities within the NP are quite expensive. However, these prices are set by the Park Authortiies and the Lodge has no control over them at all.
The Lodge is a two hour drive from Bandar Lampung Airport and Airport Pick-Up and Drop-Off was arranged with the Lodge. The Lodge is situated close to the entrance to the National Park which facilitates early morning and night drives into the NP.
The Manager at the Lodge, Tony, is a consumate professional and his many years of experience in the tourist industry are clear to see. He understands the requirements of his guests and fulfils these needs perfectly. It was a pleasure to talk toTony and for him to share his extensive local knowledge with us.
The rooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds and a great powerful & hot shower. We arranged our food with the Lodge, having lunch at the Lodge itself each day at around mid-day. We had packed breakfasts and dinners and took them on our drives into the NP in order to maximise our time for bird and mammal spotting, which worked very well.
Way Kambas NP is known to be a difficult place to see wildife as the forest is thick and the animals are shy. However, our bird guide, Hari, was fantastic. His superb skills are well known within the birding and mammal watching fraternity and he proved to be every bit as good as we had hoped for. We had a relatively short target list of birds, having birded in the region extensively in the past and over our 4 days with him, Hari worked expertly & tirelessly to find them for us, as well as trying hard to find some of the less common mammals that can be found in the NP. He has a great sense of humour and his services are highly recommended."
