This package caters especially for those wishing a brief introduction to aspects of Balinese culture and see some of the special sights on the island of Bali prior to moving on to other places in Bali or Indonesia.
This is a long day and commences early at 06:00 after a cup of tea or coffee but before breakfast you will pay a short visit to The Nusa Dua Settling Ponds, only a short drive from the Lodge and are known for a variety of water birds. They are best visited very early in the morning or late in the evening. Your bird guide will either be Mrs Nyoman Martini or Mrs Kadek Purnaningish, both staff members of the Lodge and registered guides for Ecolodges Indonesia. At least 20 – 25 species of birds (including Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers, Ducks and Water Hens) will be seen. Walk around and enjoy for an hour and drive back to the Lodge for a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, you will travel to Tabanan for a visit to the Butterfly Park arriving at around 11:00. This Park shows many species of Indonesian Butterflies and is a beautiful peaceful place. Many of the species in Meryl Wilson’s book “101 Butterflies of Lowland Indonesia” are seen here. Lunch will be at a restaurant overlooking spectacular rice fields, then you will visit two temples the small but beautiful Jatiluwih Temple near the Park and then on to Tanah Lot Temple for a spectacular sunset. Tanah Lot is one of the six principal temples of Bali and is spiritually very significant in Balinese culture. Return to the Lodge for dinner.
You will depart Leave at 08:00 after breakfast and proceed directly to The Botanical Gardens at Bedugul. En route you will pass through much of South Bali and into the mountains and will view much development in progress. Bedugul is a mountain resort with a perfect climate and is the main town in the Lake region of Bali. You will have coffee in the gardens where there is a Rope Course for the young. The Gardens are also of interest to botanists with many examples of plants of the region. Lunch will be at the restaurant near where strawberries are grown locally. After lunch you will be shown lakes Beratan (at Bedugul), Lake Buyan and Tamblingan on the road leading to the village of Munduk. These Lakes are the water source of Bali thus very precious; they need careful attention by all interested in the welfare of Bali as they are the start of 2,000 year of old “Subak” irrigation system. This system makes Bali a world leader in irrigation systems. You will return to the Lodge via Rice Fields and the sea.
You are picked up by a vehicle from “Bali Eco Tour” at 06:00 and taken directly to the edge of the Batur volcano for a delicious breakfast on the edge of the crater. After breakfast you will cycle downhill to Ubud a great experience and any age can do this. En route you visit a village and learn much about how the Balinese live, their culture and their agricultural systems especially about the Subak irrigation system developed over 2,000 years. In Ubud you will have a lunch with Balinese cuisine and again learn about the town of Ubud, the centre of Balinese arts and culture. Your driver will take you back to the Lodge arriving at around 17:00. Age is no barrier as the cycling is all downhill for around 2 hours with many stops.
Rest after breakfast when you can go on a short local shopping trip followed by an afternoon visit to the Uluwatu Temple, one of the six main temples of Bali. Wearing a Sarong, you will start to walk up the cliff with stunning views around. In the temple yard you will see some Macaque monkeys but be careful with the things you bring especially (eyeglasses, earrings, aids, etc) as they are quite wild. At 18:00 the Balinese Kecak dance from the Ramayana epic is held. This tells an eternal love tale between Rama and Shinta and hopefully there will be a beautiful sunset background. It is really an unforgettable experience. Return to the Lodge for dinner, breakfast and then to the airport.
