UPDATE ON AGRICULTURE AND OTHER ACTIVITY AT EACH LODGE
The deadly blow of the Delta virus strain in Indonesia has pushed the chances of overseas or even local visitors even further away. This has made our AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS of even greater importance .
At KELIMUTU CRATER LAKES ECOLODGE we now have a profit sharing system with members of staff as we do for the rice terraces . Our newly acquired small tractor plough was used by Franki to clean land for 2000 tomato plants , which have grown to 50 cm in four weeks! (with irrigation) Other staff are growing cabbage, and more ginger, turmeric, and lemon grass are being planted around the edges as they bring a good price in the market, with papaya trees and pumpkins, to utilize waste space. The rice terraces yielded a good harvest under Pak Suku, giving us over 100 kg as our share to sell.
The Two Bali cows are looking fat and healthy, and they will be sold in a couple of months and more bought. They are nearly as expensive as Australian animals.

MBELILING MOUNTAIN ECOLODGE. Monkeys have stolen the bananas, so now our staff are planting more ginger, turmeric and lemon grass , as the earlier harvest sold for good prices. The lemon grass helps to stabilize the pockets of soil on the stony slopes around the kemiri (candle nut) trees, which also earned some money. Monkey resistant pineapples are doing well, beginning to fruit.
The CATFISH are earning a good income, about 3$ a kilo, and new fingerlings will be started soon .
SATWA SUMATRA ELEPHANT ECOLODGE, the Goats are all looking healthy, most have had their kids, though one is an orphan it’s mother dying from an accident. Once the capital has been paid back, we will institute a business model to allow further development for those who wish to expand. Pineapples do well here, but ginger has not, though chillies in poly bags bring a small income. The grass mowings feed the goats!

RIMBA ORANGUTAN ECOLODGE – Nile Perch have done well, now about 40cms long, they are being sold to the kitchen and the village. Once all are sold the tank will be cleaned and new stock started, having learned a few lessons on aeration. Here the chillies and eggplants in polybags earn a good little income.
We are considering beehives in the forest….if we can find an expert.

UPDATE PERTANIAN DAN KEGIATAN LAINNYA DI MASING-MASING LODGE
Lonjakan besar kasus virus Delta di Indonesia telah membuat peluang pengunjung luar negeri atau bahkan lokal semakin jauh dari harapan. Hal ini membuat kegiatan pertanian kami menjadi semakin penting.
Di KELIMUTU CRATER LAKES ECOLODGE kami sekarang memiliki sistem bagi hasil dengan anggota staf seperti yang kami lakukan untuk hasil sawah. Traktor bajak kecil telah digunakan oleh Franki untuk membersihkan lahan untuk menanam 2,000 tanaman tomat, yang telah tumbuh hingga 50cm dalam empat minggu!. Staf lain juga menanam kubis, jahe, kunyit, dan juga tanaman sere di pinggiran lahan. Karena harga yang cukup baik mereka juga menanam pepaya dan labu, untuk memanfaatkan ruang limbah. Sawah kami telah menghasilkan panen yang baik di bawah Pak Suku, dan menghasilkan lebih dari 100 kg beras dan Sebagian untuk dijual. Dua sapi Bali kami terlihat gemuk dan sehat, dan mereka akan dijual dalam beberapa bulan, untuk mendapat modal tambahan memelihara lebih banyak sapi lagi. Harga mereka hampir semahal sapi di Australia.

MBELILING MOUNTAIN ECOLODGE. Monyet-monyet telah mencuri pisang, jadi sekarang staf kami menanam lebih banyak jahe, kunyit, dan serai, karena panen sebelumnya dijual dengan harga bagus. Sereh membantu menstabilkan kantong tanah di lereng berbatu di sekitar pohon kemiri, yang juga menghasilkan uang. Nanas kami yang tidak diganggu monyet telah tumbuh dengan baik dan mulai berbuah. Ikan lele telah telah menghasilkan pendapatan yang baik sekitar A$3 per kilo, dan bibit ikan lele baru akan segera dimulai .
SATWA SUMATRA GAJAH ECOLODGE, Kambing semua tampak sehat, sebagian besar memiliki anak, meskipun satu adalah yatim piatu itu ibu meninggal karena kecelakaan. Setelah modal telah dibayarkan kembali, kami akan melembagakan model bisnis untuk memungkinkan pengembangan lebih lanjut bagi mereka yang ingin melakukan ekspansi.
NANAS baik-baik saja di sini, tetapi jahe tidak, meskipun cabai dalam polybag menghasilkan pendapatan yang kecil. Pemotongan rumput memberi makan kambing!

RIMBA ORANGUTAN ECOLODGE – Ikan Nila kami hidup dengan baik, sekarang panjangnya sekitar 40cm, dijual untuk dapur dan di desa. Setelah semua terjual, tangki akan dibersihkan dan bibit baru akan dimulai, dengan tambahan pengetahuan baru tentang system aerasi. Di sini cabai dan terong dalam polibag mendapatkan penghasilan yang lumayan. Kami sedang mempertimbangkan untuk meme;ihara lebah hutan, jika kami bisa menemukan ahlinya.
