"This unique adventure gives you a chance to discover the incredible wildlife of the land, sky and sea."
The Wildlife Safari Tour will take you from the dry tropics to the wet tropics, with an abundance of breathtaking landscapes and fascinating flora and fauna.
Indonesia is a hot spot for safari holidays and in just two weeks you can walk with Komodo Dragons, snorkel some of the most biodiverse reefs in the world, track a Rhino or Tiger and come upon Elephants in the wild. You can see the incredible work for the conservation of Orangutans in our jungle property and spend an evening floating down river with a universe of Fireflies lighting your way.
This tour showcases the vast ecological diversity of Indonesia and is truly the trip of a lifetime.
FLEXIBLE PRIVATE TOURS
Our safari holidays are private and as such, perfectly flexible. They can be customised to your needs, interests and schedule. You may wish to spend more time in some places and less in others, do more or less hiking or include different experiences that are not in the suggested itinerary.
We welcome a chance to plan your ultimate Wildlife Safari Tour with you.
DAY 1 - Welcome!
Welcome to Indonesia! You will arrive at Ngurah Rai International airport in Bali, where you will be met by one of our senior staff members. We will transport you to the hotel of your choice for a welcome and briefing and depending on your arrival time, you may be offered a bird-walk at Nusa Dua Settling Ponds.
Here you will see many water birds including the Purple Heron, Javan Pond Heron, Little Heron, four species of Egrets, Small Blue Kingfisher and many others.
DAY 2 - Forest Walk and Birding
After a relaxing breakfast, you will leave for the flight to Labuan Bajo and our Mbeliling Mountain Eco Lodge. This afternoon you will enjoy a bird walk in the protected forest around the lodge with your guide and see some birds including some species endemic to Flores.
This is the latest property in the Ecolodges family and we are very proud of the beautiful grounds we have to offer our guests.
DAY 3 - Komodo Dragons and Snorkelling
This is a long day but such an adventure! Rinca Island is the main and most beautiful island of the Komodo group of islands. We purposely choose a slow boat as so that you can cruise through The Sea of Flores, past the stunning tropical islands.
You will arrive at the large Island of Rinca around 09:00 depending on currents and will proceed by foot to look for the giants of the lizard world, the Komodo Dragons.
The Komodo Dragons are a seriously endangered species, that grow up to 3.5 metres in length. They have a ferocious bite combining serrated teeth with a mysteriously toxic saliva.
Here you should also see a number of bird species and hopefully buffalo and deer.
Lunch will be served back on the boat before more opportunities for snorkelling. This is a fantastic area renowned for its biodiversity.
DAY 4 - Mountain Birding or Sulphur Lake
Today you can between an inland mountain tour in the direction of Ruteng for birding and stunning scenery or a visit to Lake Sano - a sulphur lake where you will have lunch with locals at a homestay and walk part way around the lake.
Both tours brilliantly showcase the natural beauty of the area and of course you can plan according to your tastes in the booking process
DAY 5 - Rimba Orangutan Ecolodge
It’s time to go to Rimba! Fly early to Bali, then via Java on to Pangkalan Bun in Borneo arriving in the afternoon. After meeting your guide, you will be transported to Kumai to your Klotok riverboat to start the magical trip up the Sekonyer River to the Rimba Orangutan Ecolodge.
It is a relaxing two-hour cruise up the river and if the weather is clear, fireflies will light up the forest until you see the glow of Rimba, where our manager will meet you and introduce you to the magic that is “The Rimba Experience.”
DAY 6 - Orangutans, Wildlife and Camp Leakey
After a leisurely breakfast, you will board a riverboat to the famous Camp Leakey to view Orangutans in their natural habitat.
Other primates to be seen include Proboscis Monkeys, Gibbons and Long Tailed Macaques and Silverbacked Langurs.
You also have the opportunity to see many birds, crocodiles and monitors.
Camp Leakey (named after Oxford-based scientist Louis Leakey), is one of the homes of Professor Birute Galdikas. Camp Leakey is known as the longest biological, documented, scientific experiment on the globe.
Birute Galdikas is one of Leakey’s golden angels, the others being Dianne Fossey (Gorilla scientist) and Jane Goodall (the Chimpanzee scientist).
There are two species of Orangutan living in Indonesia, the Borneo (Pongo pygmaeus) and the Sumatran (Pongo abelii) - both species are critically endangered.
The Orangutan is a close relative of humans and shows an ability to learn signs as a method for communicating with humans.
On the cruise home, if the evening is clear, you may enjoy a stunning river sunset with Proboscis Monkeys.
DAY 7 - Orangutan Feeding Centres, Village Visit and Dinner with Fireflies
Tanggui is a second Orangutan release centre in an area famous for butterflies. After an Orangutan feeding experience, you will proceed on a walk around the area to explore the varieties of birds, butterflies and trees.
After lunch and a short siesta, you will visit Tandjung Harapan - the third release centre for the afternoon viewing. This centre is opposite a village where people were resettled out of the park. If you wish you can visit the village and talk to the villagers.
At night, you will have “Dinner with Fireflies” - an unforgettably magical riverboat experience that is not to be missed.
DAY 8 - Satwa Elephant Ecolodge
Today you will cruise back down the river to Kumai and on to the airport to fly to Jakarta, and Lampung in Sumatra. You will be met by one of our senior staff for the drive to our Satwa Sumatra Elephant Ecolodge. Rest, explore the grounds and local village and we will brief you on this part of your tour over dinner.
DAY 9 - Wildlife Tour
At Satwa Ecolodge you will often wake to the haunting call of The Siomang Gibbons in the nearby National Park.
After breakfast, you have a chance to walk through the park with the aim of seeing the Siomang Gibbons for yourself!
You will also see a variety of birds and deer as well. After lunch, you are back to the park again to Way Kanan for a riverboat trip and a thrilling hike in the Tiger habitat.
On the river, you should see birds and primates as well as Deer and wild Elephants. Sun Bears have also been spotted here.
Dinner is served back at the lodge and for enthusiasts, you can adventure out on a night bird walk with Heriyono, our resident bird guide.
DAY 10 - Elephant Experience
After a leisurely breakfast take some sugar cane grown in our gardens and head into the park to meet the mahouts and the Elephants at the Elephant Protection Unit (EPU).
You will discover the lifetime bond between mahouts and their Elephants and learn how they play an important role in the community. In the past, marauding wild Elephants would threaten local villages, and villagers would kill them to protect their crops and people.
The EPU was set up to use trained Elephants to herd the wild Elephants from the villages, protecting all involved from conflict.
This innovative program has saved a significant number of wild Elephants and if you are lucky you will get a chance to witness the unit at work.
You will also have a chance to visit the Bambangan reforestation centre for a picnic, a short hike and the opportunity to plant a tree, visit with park staff and enjoy the forest. During this walk, you may see more wild Elephants and possibly the endemic White Winged Wood Duck.
Day 11 - Bali
Today is a travel day – we return you to Lampung to catch your flights to Bali via Jakarta. In Bali, you will be met by our drivers to return to the hotel for dinner and a night swim in the pool.
DAY 12 - Birding, Culture, Shopping and Relaxation
Enjoy a day of shopping and a rest. For those who were unable to visit the Settling Pond and Uluwatu Kecak dance tours on Day 1, these will be organised for you.
Vehicles will be supplied also to take you to Nusa Dua, Kuta and Kerobokan shopping areas if you wish. Of course, you may just wish to chill out and enjoy some time by the pool!
DAY 13 - Explore Bali
This is a full day Bali tour including Kintamani and the crater area of Mt Batur, visits to temples, the art town of Ubud and viewing the famous rice terraces.
This is a fantastic introduction to the rich Hindu culture, and the importance of Bali in the Indonesian archipelago.
DAY 14 - Farewell
After breakfast, your tour is done! You may proceed to other planned destinations or home with a lifetime of wonderful memories. Of course, we will assist you with onward bookings and airport transfers.
